Nelson S. Hsieh practices insurance coverage law, general civil litigation, as well as corporate law.

In his insurance practice, Mr. Hsieh has counseled both policyholders and insurers on a wide range of coverages, including issues involving technology, multimedia, errors and omissions (E&O) and comprehensive general liability (CGL) policies. Mr. Hsieh has also defended and prosecuted numerous insurance coverage claims, including bad faith claims.


In his business practice, Mr. Hsieh counsels individuals and businesses (particularly high-tech companies) in a wide range of commercial and contractual matters, including the formation and operation of companies, as well as the negotiation of contracts and agreements. In addition, Mr. Hsieh works in conjunction with other attorneys in the firm's intellectual property practice group to service the needs of technology and e-commerce businesses. Mr. Hsieh also represents individuals and businesses in commercial disputes, including disputes and litigation involving trademark and copyright licensing agreements, non-disclosure agreements, technology transfer contracts and franchise agreements.

Mr. Hsieh is conversant in Chinese (Mandarin), and represents a number of Asian owned or operated businesses, including Taiwan-based multinational companies and their U.S. subsidiaries.

Mr. Hsieh earned his B.A. degree in philosophy from U.C.L.A. He earned his J.D. degree in 1994 from U.C. Hastings College of the Law, where he was a notes editor of the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review and received American Jurisprudence Awards for Contracts and Evidence Advocacy. At Hastings, he was an extern for Chief Judge Thelton Henderson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. Prior to starting private practice at Cooper, White & Cooper LLP, Mr. Hsieh served as a law clerk for Judge David Garcia and Judge William Cahill in the San Francisco County Superior Court.

Mr. Hsieh served two terms as the President of the Contra Costa County Barristers Association, and was also a representative to the Contra Costa County Bar Association's Board of Directors.
