Ed Romero represents individuals, small businesses and institutional clients in federal and state trials and appeals involving class actions, employment matters, environmental contamination, insurance coverage, officer and director liability, real property, trade secrets and other complex litigation.  Ed also prosecutes and defends cases involving the Consumers Legal Remedies Act, California Civil Code section 1750 et seq. (the “CLRA”); the Unfair Competition Law, California Business and Professions Code sections 17200 et seq. (the “UCL”); and the Petroleum Marketing Practices Act, 15 U.S.C. section 2801 et seq. (the “PMPA”).   

     Class and UCL Actions.  For over a decade, Ed has prosecuted and defended class and other representative actions involving consumer fraud, health care fraud, securities fraud, variable life insurance products, vanishing insurance premiums, forced-placed insurance and reverse mortgage lending. 

     Employment.  Ed represents employers who have been wrongfully accused of harassment, sexual or racial discrimination or violating state wage and hour laws.  Ed also represents employees who have been victimized by discrimination or who have not been paid all wages or benefits owed to them by their employer. 

     Environmental Contamination.  Ed represents current and former landowners and other potentially responsible parties in litigation and administrative proceedings involving the clean-up and remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons, methyl tertiary butyl ether (“MTBE”), perchloroethylene (“PCE”) and other contaminates to real property. 

     Insurance Coverage.  Ed has represented a national carrier in a large, multi-site environmental coverage action and represents individuals in bad faith actions against their insurance companies. 

     Officer and Director Liability.  Ed represented individuals who were unjustifiably accused of fraud and breach of their fiduciary duties as officers or directors of companies, resulting in the dismissal, with prejudice, of all causes of actions against his clients. 

Ed received his baccalaureate from Stanford University and his law degree from Boalt Hall School of Law.  His reported decisions include Heartland Communications, Inc. v. Sprint Corporation and Lasley v. New England Life Insurance Company.
