About Me
Robert L. Sallander, Jr. brings an aggressive yet pragmatic and cost-efficient approach to his handling of complex civil litigation. His practice emphasizes insurance coverage and bad faith, though Mr. Sallander has successfully handled a variety of matters including toxic injury, environmental actions, employment disputes and other business torts.
Mr. Sallander has a cogent and direct style in both his written and oral presentations. As a consequence, he has handled several appellate matters in addition to his substantial trial experience in both State and Federal courts. Mr. Sallander has had significant involvement in such important decisions as Employers Insurance of Wausau v. Albert D. Seeno Construction Co., et al., Wong v. State Compensation Insurance Fund, State Farm v. Superior Court, Perzik v. St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Co., and Vikco Ins. Services v. Ohio Indemnity Co. The drive to simplify and energize the presentation to juries of intricate and sophisticated scientific engineering concepts has led Mr. Sallander to effectively develop and use demonstrative evidence such as real-time computer imaging, videotapes, and movable scale models.
Mr. Sallander’s presentations to the insurance industry on the use of such evidence have been enthusiastically received. Mr. Sallander’s undergraduate studies in journalism at Brigham Young University earned him national recognition for excellence by the Society of Professional Journalists. He was also honored by his professors at Drake University Law School for outstanding achievement in trial advocacy and oral argument. While still a law student, Mr. Sallander clerked for the Federal District Court for the Western District of Washington. Mr. Sallander is a regular speaker to groups of all sizes on issues about commercial litigation and insurance coverage. For example, in April 2004, Mr. Sallander was a featured speaker at the Defense Research Institute Insurance Coverage and Claims Institute’s Annual Meeting in Chicago where he spoke on insurance coverage for mass torts.
Beginning in 2004 through 2010, San Francisco Magazine selected Mr. Sallander as one of its “Super Lawyers” in the area of insurance coverage. Mr. Sallander is a co-author of the “Insurance Bad Faith: A Compendium of State Law” (2004), published by the Defense Research Institute. Mr. Sallander is also the author of the Chapter entitled “Allocation in Mixed Actions” published in 2006 by the Defense Research Institute in the First Edition of its Duty of Defense Compendium.
