About Me

Joshua Gilliland is a California attorney and an associate at Greenan, Peffer, Sallander & Lally LLP. Joshua has over 15 years of eDiscovery experience that focuses on litigation holds, review strategies, and preparing a case for trial. Josh is nationally recognized for his eDiscovery blog www.bowtielaw, where he analyzes current trends in case law focusing on the 2015 Amendments to the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and Admissibility. Josh has also been published American Lawyer Magazine, Corporate Counsel, Litigation: American Bar Association, The Journal of the Section of Litigation, in addition to many white papers for eDiscovery software companies.

Josh was sworn in as a California attorney in December of 2001. Josh has practiced mostly civil litigation on cases that have included construction defect litigation, products liability, a global price-fixing conspiracy, and general litigation. No stranger to document review, Josh spent hours in document repositories at the beginning career. Josh first used Summation iBlaze for document review in 2003 and never looked back at reviewing boxes of paper.

Josh is the co-creator of The Legal Geeks blog and podcast, which has made the ABA Journal as one of the top 100 blogs for lawyers from 2013 to 2018 and was nominated for Best Podcast for the 2015 Geekie Awards. Josh has presented at San Diego Comic Con with other “legal geeks” including California Supreme Court Associate Justice Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar, Circuit Judge John Owens from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, Magistrate Judge Mitch Dembin, and Magistrate Judge Stacie Beckerman.

Josh grew up in Silicon Valley and is a graduate of UC Davis with a degree in Political Science and earned his law degree from McGeorge School of Law, University of the Pacific. Josh is a lifelong fan of science fiction, from Star Trek to Star Wars, Universal Monsters, Kaiju, and comics. Josh enjoys organizing panels and mock trials at comic conventions, photography, and volunteering in Scouting.
